THE THEATER AT NORTH
ABOUT
Audiences of all ages are captivated into a world of wonder by the enchanting score by Tschaikovsky, Helen Gaus' original choreography, lavish costumes by our Director of Wardrobe, Jane Rumyantseva, and exquisite scenery and lighting design by JE Tellier and Dave Yezeski.
Originating from E.T.A. Hoffman's story of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King (1816), The first performance of The Nutcracker dates back to December 17, 1892 at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia. Since then, companies across the world have brought this classic to life in all different ways.
In 1985, Robert Kintz and Mary Hepner of the Wilkes Barre Ballet Company and Helen Gaus collaborated in presenting The Nutcracker, Northeast Pennsylvania's first joined performance by two companies. Following the inaugural event, Scranton Civic Ballet Company continued presenting this holiday classic to the city of Scranton, making Helen Gaus' The Nutcracker an unforgettable experience each year during the holiday season.
